BLOOMINGTON, IN — The Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation (AEI) Lab at Indiana University’s Center for Cultural Affairs (CCA) is excited to announce the upcoming symposium, Arts Engagement in an AI World. The event will explore how generative artificial intelligence (AI) and related tools have the potential to impact experiences, demands, communities, markets, and even culture itself. The symposium is scheduled online for June 6 and 7, 2024.
The event will include a platform for researchers and thinkers to share their insights on the current and future state of arts and culture in a world where AI is prevalent. Our primary focus will be on the audiences and patrons of the arts, and how the introduction of generative AI and related tools has or will affect their experience, demand, communities, markets, and culture. The two-day symposium will feature keynote speakers, Brett Crawford, an Associate Teaching Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and author of “Raising the Curtain: Technology Success Stories from Performing Arts Leaders and Artists,” and Linden Walcott-Burton, Culture Policy Officer for the Mayor of London for the Greater London Authority. The format will consist of research panels, roundtables, and AI workouts related to arts engagement. Professor Doug Noonan, co-director of the AEI Lab, describes the symposium as, “An exciting time for researchers and thinkers to come together for collaborative discussions on the implications of AI for arts engagement.”
The AEI Lab at the CCA is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Research Lab program. The lab conducts empirical research to understand the role of arts and culture in innovation and entrepreneurship.
