Innovating Institutions and Inequities in the Arts

The Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation (AEI) Lab in partnership with the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is pleased to present a virtual symposium about innovation, institutions, and inequities in the arts on July 27th, from 1pm to 5pm. The goal of the convening is to present provocative, cutting-edge ideas from leading thinkers about new models and systems for addressing inequities in the creative sector. Our aim with this event is to stimulate new ideas about challenges and opportunities for the creative sector that will inform new paradigms centered around equity, technology, resilience, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

CultureSource is a member association serving cultural organizations and creative people across Southeast Michigan. As a regional service organization, we do this work through hosting professional development workshops that grow creative and leadership capacities, presenting programs that provide space for exchanging ideas about arts and culture, and leading initiatives that bring together stakeholders interested in the public accessing creative expression.

The mission of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) is to improve the quality of people’s lives through grants supporting the performing arts, environmental conservation, medical research and child well-being, and through preservation of the cultural and environmental legacy of Doris Duke’s properties. The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation focuses its support to the performing arts on contemporary dance, jazz and theater artists, and the organizations that nurture, present and produce them. DDCF is one of only two foundations in history to have received the National Medal of Arts from the National Endowment for the Arts, in special recognition of DDCF’s support of creative expression across the United States and “bold commitment” to artistic risk, which has helped performing artists share their talents and enriched the cultural life of the nation.
